This year has been one with many changes for me. I finished the Fall 2022 semester as an Exercise Science major, and began the Spring 2023 semester as an English major. However, I feel more confident in who I am as a I continue on in this new field of studies.
Careers in Writing has been an extremely beneficial class to me. Writing has always been a passion of mine, something I have always loved to do, and seeing just how many possible career choices I have has been very uplifting. Even on the days where I wonder what I’m going to do once I graduate, I am confident now knowing that whatever it is I decide to do, I will be able to achieve it.
Building this portfolio has opened up many new opportunities for me, such as spurring me to attend career resource events, or reach out to professionals and speak with them regarding their careers. This class truly has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I’m glad that it has. Seeing my work gathered on this website gives such a feeling of accomplishment, and I can honestly say that I’m proud of where I am in my career.
Through this class, I have gained a deeper understanding of how exactly to search and pursue a desired job, as well as a better understanding of how to approach the job professionally. I’ve learned how to network my skills, how to exercise communication, and how to pitch possible stories to publishers. Even though I am not currently writing as my career, I am very excited to utilize the skills that have been tuned throughout this course.
In closing, I’d like to say thank you to my professor and my classmates. Thank you for your insights and suggestions throughout this course. It was through your help that I was able to improve upon where I’d started. I truly am grateful, and I’m excited for the future.
